Start Your Rebounding Journey

Everyone goes in different directions, and starts from different places.

Do you have a rebounder?

Which rebounder is right for you?

Choosing your first rebounder β€” but not necessarily your last

Let's make this first choice easy and get you bouncing. Down the road, we recommend adding a second rebounder: keep both for two different jumping experiences, or gift your first rebounder to a family member β€” that's how a whole household starts jumping. πŸ†

A note about our links

Full disclosure: we earn a commission when you buy through our links, at no extra cost to you, and brands we partner with have provided us with rebounders. We only ever recommend units we personally use and trust β€” and we'll always give you our honest feedback. πŸ†

Before you buy

Whichever model you choose: check the manufacturer's current user-height and weight limits for every person who will use it.

The handlebar is a performance tool

Every rebounder we recommend here either comes with a handlebar or offers one as an add-on. We love having ours attached at all times β€” it helps us maximize our strength, balance, and performance β€” with the occasional camping trip where we don't bring it. We recommend you explore doing the same.

But if for any reason you want to remove your handlebar, that's an option too. You can still have great jump sessions without one β€” especially those rogue ones where you just jump around and do your thing. And if you ever want a little extra support, you can always set your rebounder up against a wall.

Prefer to shop secondhand?

Secondhand is a wonderful way to begin. Search your local for-sale sites for a used rebounder β€” ideally with a handlebar, but if you find a great one without, scoop it up, set it against a wall for a little support, and get started on your jumping journey. We'd rather you begin than wait!

A little tip: go bounce on it for a minute or two before you buy. Feel how it moves, take a look at the frame and mat, and make sure it's clean and in good shape. Trying it out is half the fun. πŸ†

For long-term success, the goal is still a handlebar β€” for all the opportunities that come with one.

As you advance in your rebounding

When you reach a point where you're not seeing as much progress as you were in the beginning, that's the time to check that your rebounder's tension is still strong. If it isn't, make the change β€” tighten the bungees, replace them, or consider upgrading to a stronger rebounder β€” so you can keep making progress in your rebounding journey.

This is one of the reasons we love recommending a second rebounder. Two rebounders bring two different strength opportunities into your body β€” it's a lot like cross-training, keeping the body guessing so you build strength in a new, more complete way. Both rebounders keep their integrity longer, because you're dividing your time between them. And you'll likely progress faster in your rebounding journey because of it.

Step two Β· Choose your workout path

You have your rebounder. Now choose your workout path.

Your bounce, your speed

Different rebounders bounce at different speeds. Depending on what rebounder you have, you may need to slow down or intensify your bounce speed when you're jumping in a class. We know it can be tempting to match the speed of the instructor, but what's most important is that the move feels best for your body.

So learn the move and find your groove β€” at your perfect bounce speed.

Starting with an injury

If we have an injury that we need to work around, there are ways to use the rebounder that don't incorporate bouncing at all.

  • keep the sessions short
  • keep the bouncing extremely low
  • start by walking in place on a rebounder without bouncing at all

Membership Workouts

Our YouTube membership

When you're confident and ready for a structured program, our membership is the place to be.

Inside you'll find Trophy Body Frequency Training in our three-in-one format: three 12-minute workouts in a single video β€” and you get two new videos every week, one from each Trophy Twin β€” so you can hang out with us on your rebounder multiple times a day and build your Trophy Body frequently throughout the day.

The three classes cover the six pillars, two per class:

  • Class 1 β€” The Wake-Up: Mobility & Flexibility + Low-Intensity Cardio
  • Class 2 β€” The Midday Break: Strength Training + High-Intensity Cardio
  • Class 3 β€” The Late Afternoon: Balance + Restorative Flow

If that sounds like a good fit for you, the membership is where you'll thrive.

A tip before you join: sign up from a web browser on your laptop or iPad rather than inside the YouTube app β€” the app adds an extra fee on top, so you'd see a higher price. Join in a browser at $14.99, and then everything is available on any device you're signed in to YouTube on, including your smart TV and your phone.

Trophy Body training programs

These are the exact programs we used to build our Trophy Bodies β€” five programs beginning with Trophy Body Training 1.0. Take one, or take them all.

Trophy Body Training

Go Rogue!

We explore our own bodies and the movements we enjoy on our rebounders every single day β€” and that's absolutely an option for you too.

We highly recommend placing your rebounder strategically in your home for maximum usage β€” in front of the TV, or in an area you hang out in often β€” so you take as many opportunities as you can in your day to explore what's possible for you on your rebounder. An episode of your favorite show can be an excellent strategy for getting on your rebounder daily. And if at any point you need more guidance, you know where to find it β€” right here with I Jump Instead.

Guidance

A little more guidance for the journey

Set it up somewhere warm and inviting

When your rebounder arrives, put it in a space in your home that feels warm and inviting β€” somewhere you'll want to be. The easier it is to walk up to, the more often you'll use it. This matters more than people expect.

Getting adapted to jumping β€” and the aches and pains along the way

During your first week β€” or anywhere in your early rebounding journey β€” you may notice your body going through an adjustment phase. This is completely normal. You may need to adjust:

  • your time β€” go shorter
  • your intensity β€” go gentler
  • your bungee setting β€” if you're on a bungee rebounder
  • your rebounder β€” sometimes switching is what we have to do. Someone on a bungee rebounder may need the support of a Cellerciser, and someone on a Cellerciser may be looking for the softer bounce of a bungee. There's no loss either way: ease in a little slower, build your way up, and you may find your way back to the other rebounder β€” or gift it to a family member.

There is a little bit of a learning curve with jumping instead. So know this: once you get your rebounder fitting your needs, and you ease in and adapt to this concentrated form of movement, you'll be able to stay on track and work toward your healthiest and strongest potential.

How much should you jump?

How you jump long term is completely up to you. Some people stay in our free classes forever, some jump on their own or with other instructors, and some live in our membership, where three short classes a day come together as one complete full-body practice.

Tracking minutes on a rebounder isn't quite like the gym, because rebounding holds so much in one place: recovery, rehabilitation, flexibility, mobility, strengthening, and more. There's no perfect number of minutes. Some days, we won't even look at our rebounders. So jump the minutes you want, the minutes your body wants, and the minutes that leave you feeling happy and successful along your journey.

Make yourself a favorites playlist

As you explore our workouts in our playlist section, make yourself a favorites playlist in your YouTube account and add routines as you discover them.

Then, when you want to get a quick workout in, you already have one in mind from your favorites β€” jump into it, know exactly what to expect, and get that boost of strength and energy you're looking for.

This is how you become even more consistent: you're making jumping the most accessible, most inviting thing in your day. Decision fatigue is real β€” a favorites playlist takes it away, because you know a good one is right there waiting for you.

So use your rebounder to your advantage, and get on it for any reason, as often as you can β€” any time in your Trophy day.

Breathe through your nose

This one changed everything for us.

Nose breathing was introduced to us a couple of years into our rebounding journey, and we're so glad we discovered it β€” from one of our Trophies β€” because it turns out it's the correct way to breathe. Not only does it keep our jaw and mouth in a proper resting posture, we also find it calms our nervous system and helps us stay more in control in our workouts β€” so we can last longer.

We noticed that once we started nose breathing in our workouts, we started nose breathing in our day-to-day lives too β€” and since it's the right way to breathe, we're grateful to be breathing properly all day now. We've even started mouth taping at night so we nose breathe while we sleep. Feel free to look into The Oxygen Advantage for mouth tape if you'd like to explore that. Otherwise, practice your nose breathing in class and watch it start to transform your everyday life.

When you start, expect to reduce your intensity while you adapt. Then you'll notice you're back up at your normal speeds and intensities β€” and feeling more in control of your exertion.

If you're jumping into any of our older workouts, just aim to nose breathe the best you can. And feel free to read the two books we recommend β€” The Oxygen Advantage by Patrick McKeown and Breath by James Nestor β€” to learn even more about the benefits of nose breathing.

Keep learning about the benefits

Part of the journey is learning even more about everything rebounding has to offer. When you're ready to dig into the research, this is a good place to start:

One more thing: what "trophy" means

Wondering why we say Trophy about everything?

It started as a pose! Back in the early 2020s we came up with a move where we wanted you to squeeze your body like a statue β€” like a Trophy! We called it the Trophy pose. Then we noticed that "the Trophy Twins" had a nice ring to it, since we're identical twins. And the word made its way into all of our programming.

So now we're Trophy Sally and Trophy Stephie β€” and we encourage you to call yourself a Trophy too.

The definition of Trophy is you reaching your greatest health, strength, and fitness potential, jumping instead inside and out β€” because it truly is a mind and body experience, bringing health into every cell in your entire body.

Thank you so much for taking your time to learn from us here at I Jump Instead, and remember to reach out if you have any questions. And we'll be here by your side every jump of the way. See you in class! πŸ†
